The 3 Best Resources Available at the Career Center
Need career help? Try the Auburn Career Center!
One of the biggest pieces of advice I was given my freshman year was to visit the Auburn University Career Center. They offer resume cover letter advice, mock interviews, career fair preparation, and so much more.
I have been to the Auburn Career Center more times than I can count, and they help in every career crisis. Navigating the “real world” can be difficult, but with the career center’s help you can become a pro in no time. Here are three of their services I’ve found the most helpful during my time here at Auburn. Visit their website here to see all other opportunities.
1. Career Closet
The Career Closet is a resource for all students who need the perfect outfit to nail any interview or career fair. You can access the outfitter on the 3rd floor of Mary Martin Hall during drop in hours Monday through Friday from 10:00AM to 3:00PM or make an appointment on Handshake. Every semester, you can pick up four individual items including shoes, tops, pants, etc. Visit the Auburn Career Center’s website to check out their current inventory.
2. Internship Search
When looking for internships, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Thankfully the career center has resources to help you begin your search and find the perfect internship for you. One of my favorite resources they suggested is CareerShift, a website to help students’ network with Auburn alumni. You can sort through the graduates by company to help connect with professionals in your industry. If you want to look at CareerShift, go to Handshake > Career Center > Resources > CareerShift. Then just sign up and you are ready to start networking!
3. Mock Interviews
Mock interviews are helpful no matter where you are in your career search, but are especially beneficial for those actively applying to internships or full-time positions. I have done many mock interviews and it is extremely helpful to receive feedback on your outfit, your answers, and your mannerisms while you interview. The career center is there to point out things you may not notice, such as such as vocal fillers and playing with your hair, as well as give advice on the best way to answer those dreaded “tell me about yourself or What is one weakness” questions. If you would like to schedule an appointment go to the “Appointments” tab on Handshake and select mock interview.
If you would like to schedule an appointment with the career center you can make appointments through Handshake. The career center also has walk-ins Monday- Friday from 10:00am- 3:00pm as well. It is never too early to start visiting the career center for advice.
