All about the event & more.

Each spring, Kohl’s hosts a Career Expo for undergraduate sophomores who are or might be interested in a retail career. Students will spend the day getting an idea of what the corporate environment at Kohl’s is like and about the internships they offer for juniors.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Zoie McNeely, a junior in apparel merchandising, about what her experience was like at the Kohl’s Expo in Spring 2019:

Elizabeth: What was your favorite part of the Sophomore Expo?

Zoie: My favorite part was the tour of the office. You get to take a look at each department and see what they are working on for the seasons to come. It was interesting to get an inside look and see everything it takes to make a business successful.

Elizabeth: How did you feel the experience helped you grow in your knowledge of both the fashion industry and your career goals?

Zoie: Just by attending, you are eligible for a first-round interview with Kohl’s for their internship program, so this is a huge foot in the door of the industry. While there, I was able to learn in depth about the different positions and career paths offered at Kohl’s, which helped me better figure out what I’m interested in doing for my future career. There were several informational sessions with helpful tips on professionalism and interviews. You can apply these not only when interviewing with Kohl’s, but also with any other company. They also review your resume and LinkedIn profile and give suggestions on how to make them better. I found this to be very useful.

Elizabeth: What advice do you have for the attendees of next year’s Sophomore Expo?

Zoie: Talk to as many people as you can, including Kohl’s employees and other students attending. At dinner, you will be given the opportunity to network with others in a more casual setting. Do not be afraid to introduce yourself and ask any questions you have. You may meet a future co-worker or make a new friend! Also, connect with everyone on LinkedIn afterwards and thank them.

The Expo this upcoming will be held April 9-10th, 2020. If you are interested in applying, check out Kohl’s website here and submit your interest today!
