Online Stores with Sustainable Swimsuits + How to Style Them

Online Stores with Sustainable Swimsuits + How to Style Them

We’re finally starting to feel the summer heat which means it’s swimsuit season. I’ve been trying to go to the beach as much as possible before going back to school in the fall. My recent beach adventures have made me realize I’ve had the same swimsuits forever so I decided  it was time to switch it up. This summer I wanted to find swimsuits that were sustainable and better for the environment instead of seeking out fast-fashion online stores like Shein for a quick fix. With that in mind, here is my list of sustainable swimsuits from some of your favorite brands, and the best ways to style them for Summer 2022.

  1. Princess Polly

Only recently did I learn of Princess Polly’s sustainability mission. I did a research project last semester and I centered it around Princess Polly. For this project I read up about their “Earth Club” program on their website. Their goal is to make trendy fashion that is sustainable and easily accessible. They list multiple facts on their website about their ethical sourcing, statistics related to sustainability goals and more. They have a page dedicated to their sustainable swimwear with 275 styles in a large range of sizes, styles and prints. Tops and bottoms are sold separately but range from $20-$45 with some styles even being on sale right now for under $20.

  1. Free People

Free People has a sustainability program called “Care FP.” They aim to reduce waste and focus on five product standards: eco-consciousness, artisan made, vintage, reusable, and clean beauty. On their website, they have a collection under the “Care FP” tab containing all their sustainable products. This includes a wide range of garments and swim. Every swim piece in the collection is made from eco-conscious fibers. The styles range from bikinis to one-pieces with striking colors and subtle patterns.

  1. Faithful The Brand

I found this brand on Instagram and it has seemingly gained popularity with its growing engagement on social media. Not only do they have gorgeous dresses, but their swim is perfect for your summer plans. Based in Indonesia, they aim to minimize their environmental footprint and increase their positive social impact. They are a certified B corporation meaning they meet the highest standard of social and environmental performance. Although the brand is a little on the pricier side, you can be reassured that they are committed to sustainability and provide a large range of sizes and styles.

Adding the smallest amount of styling to your swim can add the extra flare you’re looking for to spice up your trip to the beach or pool (also makes for cute photos). This year we are seeing the chain belt rise in popularity. This accessory sits right above the waistline making it perfect to pair with your bikini and can even be adorned with little charms. Secondly, a cover up is a must for me. I’ve been loving the look of a sarong which is essentially a skirt for your swimsuit. The piece of fabric ties around your waist to create an effortless look that is minimal and easy to take on and off when going in and out of the water. Lastly, add a cute tote bag to your sustainable swim look to help you carry all your things.
