Melanie LaPorte- Ambassador Spotlight

Tell us about yourself!

Thought you saw the last of me!? I was a SWATCH ambassador last semester and I am so happy to be back for this fall semester. If you don’t remember me well, hi my name is Melanie LaPorte and I am a senior majoring in apparel merchandising! I am from Birmingham, Alabama. I like to think of myself as a very creative person. I love creating content for anyone and my social media. I am literally obsessed with three things; my dog, Ariana Grande, and of course fashion!

What does your dream job in fashion look like?

I really hope to be part of a great company or magazine corporation! I would love to be part of a creative team or crew. I love communicating and creating with people. Getting something together and making it come to life is what really makes me happy.

What inspired you to study fashion in college & why?

Sometimes for me, it is hard to think about the future. I do get stressed out about thinking about what my dream job really is. I am new to the fashion world since I have changed my major a few times! Right when I found out that Auburn University even had a major in fashion, I knew immediately that was what I was going to study. Ever since I changed it, I never regretted it and felt so at peace with myself. I really started to find myself and find new things about me. I also have met some incredible people along the way!

What inspired you to get involved with SWATCH?

The beginning of my journey here at Auburn University was not easy. I don’t do well with change and it can be very overwhelming to me. I am very used to people telling me what classes I have to take and telling me what path I need to go down. I was very lost with myself and what was around me. Auburn is obviously a huge school with many clubs and organizations. When I found SWATCH, I really looked into it and saw that it was exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, which was creating fun content for people. I was very honored to be on the cover of the Spring 2021 SWATCH magazine. Right after I did that I knew I wanted to be more involved. There are amazing people on the team that I really look up too and consider as friends!
