A Designer's Next Step - An Alumni Spotlight
We are all no stranger to Auburn University’s esteemed Apparel Design and Merchandising program. We are taught and guided by the best professors and peers at our disposal and we learn to call the walls of Spidle Hall home. But what happens beyond the university. At some point, we are let off into the real world to chase those aspirations that led us to this major in the first place. One recent alumnus, Mary Madden Bishop is at the beginning of chasing those dreams.
Mary Madden just graduated Auburn in the spring with her bachelors in Apparel Design and Product Management. She eagerly took an internship with Brooke Wright Designs in Fort Worth Texas for this summer and is already soaking up all the knowledge she can. Although her days can vary on what she will work on, Mary Madden has been able to gain lots of experience - from working in their store front, to doing inventory, to learning the ins and outs of working in the consumer space.
Much like the hours of design studios completed at Auburn, Mary Madden has been able to take on work within the warehouse as well. Here she completes tasks such as sewing, pattern manipulating, and helping with pattern making as well. These were skills that were taught repeatedly in studio classes at Auburn and have proven to have her well prepared for these tasks.
Since working directly with Brooke Wright herself, Mary Madden has found herself accomplishing many different tasks. One unexpected task has been spending time and occasionally and taking care of Wright’s chickens. Although this wasn’t on the course load at Auburn, Mary Madden is excelling at it, nonetheless.
