Tidying up the Beauty Industry

Tidying up the Beauty Industry

In recent years, there has been a significant shift in the beauty industry towards clean beauty products. Consumers are becoming increasingly conscious of what they put on their skin, demanding transparency, sustainability, and ingredients that are safe for both themselves and the environment. Just like other consumers, I am starting to feel the same. I am tired of not knowing what all I am putting on my skin. My roommate just did a paper on how the ingredients in Chapstick still do not have to be regulated, which is insane to think about in today's age. We have the right to know what is going into all of our products. I am excited about the shift toward a cleaner future. Retailers like Sephora have curated dedicated clean beauty pages that not only offer a wide array of clean beauty products but also champion more sustainable makeup.

Clean beauty goes beyond skincare and makeup; it represents a commitment to healthier choices for our bodies and the planet. At its core, clean beauty is about formulating products without harmful ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. The movement emphasizes transparency, ensuring consumers have access to comprehensive ingredient lists and honest marketing.

Sephora's clean beauty page also champions sustainability. Many brands featured on this page prioritize eco-friendly packaging, responsible sourcing, and cruelty-free practices. Sometimes I think we forget that sustainability can be an aspect in all of our purchases. It is easy to think about sustainability in terms of clothes, but it goes so far beyond that. With clean beauty, you can take even further steps to lessen your impact.

Over the years I have added in some clean beauty products just on coincidence. They were products I started or continued to use just because they were good products. They have now stood the test of time and are products that I am constantly going back to. Even some of my favorite products are a part of the clean beauty community. Below are five of my favorite clean beauty products.

1. Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm:

Achieve soft and hydrated lips with this clean and nourishing lip balm. Made with clean ingredients, it provides lasting moisture without any harmful additives.

Not only do I use all the products listed above, but I also choose to purposely try to shop for clean products now. I know that I am getting a good, quality, and sustainable product. I also like knowing that high-quality ingredients are going into my product. Struggling with temperamental skin my whole life means that I must be more particular with the products I choose to put on it. With clean products, I know they won’t irritate my skin.

The clean beauty movement is here to stay, and Sephora's clean beauty page serves as a beacon for those seeking healthier, more sustainable beauty choices. With an array of clean, non- toxic, and ethical products, consumers can shop with confidence, knowing they are not only enhancing their natural beauty but also making choices that benefit their health and the environment. I encourage all to make the conscious choose to shop cleanly. The products above are a great place to start, but it's not hard to find something that sparks your interest.
