The Inspiration Behind Upcoming Designer Collections
It all starts with New York Fashion Week. From the Big Apple to Paris, this past month has been full of exciting new collections in fashion capitals around the world. With all the unique shows we’ve seen this month it had me wondering exactly what each designer was inspired by when it came to designing their new collections.
Versace
Donatella Versace stated that her muse for the spring 2023 collection was a dark gothic goddess. On the runway, we could see this portrayed through candles, dark lighting and mosaics. As for the garments, Donatella wanted the models to embody confidence, intelligence, and a strong personality. Overall, she stated how she had always loved the idea of a rebel which is where the idea of a gothic goddess came from. The garments in the collection highlighted this with their bold styles, darker colors, and (my favorite part) gothic veils.
Gucci
The creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele, said his inspiration for the Gucci spring 2023 collection was his mother and aunt. He states these important women in his life “made their twinship the ultimate seal of their existence.” Taking from this inspiration, Michele curated an extremely unique runway show with twin models. Sixty-eight twin models walked the runway each pair wearing an identical garment and the show was called “Twinsburg.”
Fendi
Fendi’s collection was essentially inspired by themselves. They searched their house’s archives and drew inspiration from strong women in Fendi’s past. The show focused on femininity mixed with hints of millennial fashion. This theme of femininity was well communicated through the color pallet and silhouettes.
Valentino
Valentino’s spring 2023 show was titled “Unboxing Valentino.” The inspiration behind the title and the show was individuality. The notes from the show state that when you are unboxing something you “get rid of the structure and you will see what’s inside.” Once again, alluding to one’s individuality. The garments shown in the show focused on silhouettes, many very dramatic.
