New York Fashion Week 2023

New York Fashion Week 2023

February, or as some call it, fashion month, is here. On February 10th, all of the biggest designers, models, celebrities, and performers made their return to the Big Apple for a very memorable New York Fashion Week. This week was full of unforgettable looks and iconic fashion moments. Suki Waterhouse performed at Veronica Beard, Lindsay Lohan sat front row at Christian Siriano, and Wiederhoeft unveiled his “genderless” bride look. A number of designers debuted their collections for Fall 2023, many of which combined classic styles we know and love, with creative new innovations. Keep reading to learn about my favorite Fall 2023 trends from New York Fashion Week 2023.

Sheer-iously Amazing

The use of sheer textiles and materials has become increasingly popular in fashion. Now more than ever we are seeing sheer textiles incorporated into runway looks. Expect to see sheer pieces with lighter color palettes at the forefront of spring fashion. These sensual styles and color palettes will continue through the summer and into autumn. As the fall becomes winter, I anticipate darker hues and long, flowing, silhouettes to remain in style.

Bursting Bouquets

Flowers have dominated the runway scene, often used in 3D appliques and embroidery. This trend was spotted amongst many of the designer's Fall 2023 collections; from Sandy Liang to Carolina Herrera to Christian Siriano, whose whole collection was inspired by roses. This trend will start to emerge this spring and will be seen everywhere come fall.

When in Doubt, Put a Bow on it

My favorite trend of New Fashion Week 2023: bows, on everything. Ribbons are making their way to the runway in Fall 2023 and the subtle yet ultra-feminine detailing of bows is being incorporated into many designers' collections. Notably, Sandy Liang, who took this trend to a whole new level with bows adorning nearly every model in her show, is making a splash.

The Return of Red

The color dominating the runways, which some are calling “Elmo red” and “Campbell’s tomato soup red” has certainly made its mark at New York Fashion Week. It was seen in over 12 different designers' collections including Tory Burch, Alejandra Alonso Rojas, and Proenza Schouler. This color is soon to be everywhere this year. Even Rihanna has shown her stamp of approval for this new bright hue with her iconic outfit at the Super Bowl 2023 halftime show.

Risky Business

One of the standout trends this fashion week was… well, going pantless. Designers emphasized the concept of “less is more” by pairing outfits with transparent tights and underwear in place of pants while showcasing their looks on the runway. This trend is already gaining mass media attention,  with stars like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Hailey Bieber embracing the “no pants look”.

It’s All About the  Shoulders

Designers are transporting us back to the 80s with these ultra-exaggerated shoulder looks seen across many NYFW collections from Christain Cowan, Luar, and Thom Brown. One thing is certain, shoulder pads will certainly make their comeback in 2023 and we will see more diluted styles of these runway looks hit the mass market in the fall.
