Scents of the Holidays

Scents of the Holidays

With the holidays approaching, I am reminded of how traditional scents often help bring back seasonal memories. Here are a few holiday scenarios to help you visualize which fragrance you many want to try:

How to smell like Gilmore Girls “I Smell Snow”:

· Sorcellerie Apothecary: Aliens Go Ice Skating

Starts out atmospheric and gets cozier as it wears, like coming inside from a cold day and getting comfy.

(winter air, sparkling snow, iris, black pepper)

· WienerBlut: Nord Du Nord

High above the mountain forests, between snow fields and bare rock, the crystal-clear nocturnal sky carries the scent of cold wood and eternal ice.

(peppermint, ice water, rock moss, alpine lichen, eucalyptus, fir needle, cedar wood)

· Byredo: Gypsy Water

Fresh forests and camp fires evoke the dream of a free lifestyle close to nature.

(juniper, lemon, bergamot, pepper, pine needles, vanilla, sandalwood, amber)

How to smell like Celebrating the Holidays:

· Kilian: Apple Brandy

Inspired by the city of New York, an olfactive soundtrack to nightlife’s liberation to come.

(bergamot, apple brandy, cardamon)

· Ellis Brooklyn: Apres

Opens dewy like the first snow and then evolves into a boozy-woodsy brew laced with spices and sweetness.

(saffron, juniper berries, cardamom, soft suede, bourbon)

· Gilded Fox: Pinrose

Smells just like a cup of spicy hot cocoa.

(buttered rum, cocoa, jasmine)

How to smell like Elouise at Christmas Time:

· Hilde Soliani: Crema Di Latte

Images of warm milk in porcelain mugs on a cold winter night will dance in your head.

(milk, sugar, vanilla)

· StrangeLove NYC: MeltMyHeart

For falling in love. Said to hold the heart of another completely in thrall.

(ginger, bergamot, nutmeg, safe, agarwood, dark chocolate, orris root)

· Hermes: Twilly EAU Ginger

Yesterday they were mischievous, then spicy, and today they are joyful, bright and sparkling.

(candied ginger, peony, cedar)

How to smell like Holiday Nostalgia:

· Maison Francis: Baccarat Rouge 540

A bright and sleek poetic alchemy.

(hedione, ambroxan, Virginia cedar, saffron)

· Tom Ford: Lost Cherry

Designed to drip into your heart, glossing it with candy-like gleam.

(black cherry, tonka bean, almond)

· Dries Van Noten: Soie Malaquais

A silky, enveloping perfume, a mix of chestnut with sensual vanilla.

(chestnut, cocoa, silk, bergamot, blackcurrant, rose)

How to smell like a Cozy Sweater:

· Philosophy: Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere

You’ll feel as though you’re curled up fireside with these vanilla musk notes.

(cashmere wood, vanilla bean, sandalwood, orchid)

· Tom Ford: Tobacco Vanille

Opulent and warm, leaving a powerful impression.

(tobacco leaf, vanilla, ginger)

· Imaginary Authors: Cape Heartache

Based on an expedition Philip Sava made to the Pacific Northwest. Themes of leaving the familiar and finding comfort and solace in a new place.

(douglas fir, pine resin, western hemlock, vanilla leaf, strawberry, old growth, mountain fog)
