Fallin’ for Fall: An Aesthetic Guide to Autumn
As the temperature drops and pumpkin spice returns to shelves, it is time to establish or redefine your style for this fall. When defining one’s style, people typically align themselves to an aesthetic that can vary or be swapped out throughout the seasons. Here are some autumn aesthetics that we obsessed with for Fall 2023:
Christian Girl Autumn
Initially beginning as a meme in 2019, Christian Girl Autumn gradually shifted into a popular, seasonal style for the fall. Whether you are drinking pumpkin spice lattes or going apple picking, make sure to stock up on sweater dresses, oversized scarves, and large-brimmed hats. And do not forget the thigh-high boots! Dark Academia Autumn
Revolving around the classics and an appreciation of learning, Dark Academia features a vintage, more formal style. The articles of clothing most associated with this aesthetic are blazers, loafers, turtlenecks, and plaid/tweed clothing. This preppy, autumnal aesthetic goes best with all-night study sessions or visits to the art museum. Inspo: Romney Ellen (@romneyellen)
Downtown Girl Autumn
With a more subdued, grungier color palette, the Downtown Girl aesthetic is perfect for visiting your local thrift shop or record store. You will typically see leather jackets/blazers, platform Converse high tops, grandpa sweaters and baby/graphic tees dominate this casual aesthetic. The Downtown Girl aesthetic ensures that you are (and look) ready to walk from point A to point B while listening to Lana Del Rey or Mitski. Inspo: Luiza Cordery (@luizacordery)
Vanilla Girl Autumn
The Vanilla Girl aesthetic is the cozier, hibernal sister to the “clean girl” aesthetic. Neutral/cream layers, UGG slippers, cable knit sweaters and grey sweatpants are the essentials for achieving this minimalistic aesthetic. Vanilla does not have to be considered boring through this dreamy, attainable aesthetic! Inspo: Matilda Djerf (@matildadjerf)
Whether you choose to implement the entirety of or incorporate elements from each aesthetic, always remember to go outside your comfort zone and have fun dressing yourself this fall!
