When to Invest in Trends
Trends are going to be a popular part of fashion in any given season. Trends are constant; in the last couple of years, we have seen styles such as shoulder bags, bike shorts, sweater vests, Y2K, and gender-neutral fashion grab a hold on fashion-lovers and regular consumers alike . Celebrities, models, influencers, and those in the fashion industry are those who are praised for setting these trends each and every season. While they are notorious to come and go, all fashionistas work hard to work the trends, even if only for a season. Fashion is a cycle of trends, always coming and going, so it is important to know when to invest in a trend. Some trends have shorter lifespans while others last longer.
Celebrities, models, and influencers all have the ability to splurge on the trendiest products and make them their own, but most consumers understand that they have to be conscious of which trend to buy into and how much they should spend. This begs the question: when should consumers really invest in a trend? I have a couple of tricks for deciding when to invest in a trend:
1. Before investing in a trend, imagine wearing it. I always make sure that I can envision three different and unique outfits. The more versatile the trend, the better.
2. Make sure you are not buying it just because it is trendy. Do not buy it on a whim, make sure to think it through. This may seem extreme for shopping, but having a versatile closet will last you through the years. Everyone has that piece of clothing they wish they didn't buy, but it will happen time and time again, to the best of us, if we are not careful.
3. Lastly, you should LOVE what you buy and if you want to invest in that trend then do it.
Trends can be tricky, but fashion should always be fun! Trends can be successful in anyone’s closet if you can incorporate them into your personal style and feel confident in them.
