Selena Gomez is the latest celebrity to create her own makeup line, which she has titled ‘Rare Beauty’. To say I’m impressed with her first launch is a huge understatement. Combining beauty with purpose, this line sets out to create a different market offering that makes people look good on the outside while providing resources to feel good on the inside as well. Not only does her line include both makeup and tools, her first launch contains 48 different foundation and concealer shades- talk about an amazing range! So many makeup brands that have been in existence for years do not have this width of shade range.

This line is unique in that it encourages consumers to focus on enhancing natural beauty. The products are very dewy, starting with her primer, which creates the illusion of glowing skin. This foundation primer contains ‘ultra-fine pearls’ that are supposed to create a ‘lit from within’ glow. The rest of this line contains products that are offered in natural hues and are designed to match each person’s skin tone, i.e. warm, cool, neutral.

Along with her makeup line, Selena has also started the ‘Rare Impact Fund’, and 1% of Rare Beauty’s sales will go towards different mental health groups. Within the next 10 years, the goal of the fund is to raise $100 million for the purpose of increasing access to mental health resources. Keeping mental health and positivity in mind, Selena chose encouraging words to name products. For example, some of her lipstick shades include Joy, Happy, Grateful, Bliss, Love, and Grace.

These products are sold exclusively at Sephora and are reasonably-priced when compared to competitors. Her foundations are priced at $29.00 and lipsticks at $16.00.

After watching a few YouTube reviews, I added a few items to my Sephora cart, and I can’t wait to try them out! Whitney Simmons has a great in-depth review of this line if you want to hear more about each item. If you try any of these products, let us know what you think!
