Making the Most of Quarantine
Today is the day. The day that you start the one thing you have always wanted to accomplish. You know, the thing that you have always wanted to do, but never did.
Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, we are all left shocked and afraid. With the cancelation of on-campus programs, us students are left washing our hands and licking our wounds (not really, do not do that). Nevertheless, I’ve decided not to dwell on the negatives too much.
For the longest time I have wanted to be fluent in French. I took French in high school, but something got lost in translation, literally. I’ve decided though that today is the day I start to learn French...or relearn French. I downloaded a couple of French apps to help out and purchased French Grammar for Dummies. I am taking it day by day, but I hope to see promising results soon.
If today is the day you have endless free time, what are you going to do? What have you always wanted to accomplish? Maybe you want to be the next Picasso or start your own personal blog. Yes, we still have school and quarantine isn’t all that glamorous, however, after classes I have dedicated my time to learning French. Using my time to pick up a new hobby and get through the long days. Though my parents encouraged me, I think they now regret their decision after hearing my beautiful French accent. C’est la vie.
Whatever you want to accomplish, I encourage you to start now. Whether you start with courage or fear, at least start. This is a time of self-growth. If you need help choosing your new hobby, here are some suggestions.
1. Paint
Painting is a great way to relieve stress and express yourself creatively.
2. Learn to sew
This is another thing that I wish to master amidst my isolation. I have always wanted to make my own clothing, so I have enlisted my mother as my new assistant. Sewing can be another outlet for creative expression and can be so helpful in the long run.
3. Start a blog or vlog
Love David Dobrik or Chiara Ferragni? Starting a blog or a vlog and consistently posting can be difficult, especially with a full class schedule. Now we have all the time in the world. If you have always wanted to start one, go for it. Film (within the borders of your home of course) or write about what you love.
4. Become a fitness guru
Staying in shape and healthy during this time is very important. Maybe you have always wanted to learn Jiu Jitsu or boxing? Look up videos on Youtube or order a monthly program to get you started.
5. Master cooking
Cooking is a great skill to learn. I am not the best cook, but I love food. Cooking can be experimental and delicious. If you want to become the next Gordon Ramsey, you have to start somewhere. Watch tutorials and soon you could be the next Master Chef.
