Whenever I want to refresh myself I often apply perfume, even when I don't have anywhere to go. By wearing perfume, it eliminates the depressing moods and helps me regain calmness and boost my confidence. However, some people may have experienced trying to get rid of the heavy scent when they apply heavy perfume in the hot summer. Fragrance, simply, consists of scents and alcohol, and the duration of fragrance varies depending on the fragrance concentration. Based on the fragrance concentration, fragrances can be classified into Perfume, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne, and Shower Cologne.
Perfume (Parfum)
Fragrance concentration is between 20-30%, the thickest concentration among fragrances. It has a richer scent than Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette and the scent lasts 6-7 hours.
Eau de Parfum (EDP)
With 85-90% of alcohol purity, Eau de Parfum has 15-20% of fragrance concentration and the duration of scent is around 5 hours. It is cheaper than perfume.
Eau De Toilette
Fragrance concentration is between 5-10% which has a comparatively short duration of scent around 3-4 hours.
Eau De Cologne
Fragrance concentration is between 3-5% and has a duration of scents up to 4 hours. You are able to use it as a daily fragrance.
Shower Cologne
Shower Cologne is usually used as the term body mist. It lasts an hour.
The scent of perfume is made from three fragrance notes.
Top Notes
Top Notes are the scent that you can recognize immediately when the perfume is sprayed. As you can sense the scents immediately, it also evaporates quickly.
Middle Notes
You can sense the middle notes when top notes disappear, usually after 30 minutes to an hour when perfume is applied.
Base Notes
When middle notes start to dissipate, you can sense base notes. Base notes can last up to 6 hours. Depending on an individual's signature body odor, base notes can be sensed differently.
