Top 10 Jobs for Merchandising Seniors to Apply for on LinkedIn

As seniors, we are beginning to feel the pressure of applying for jobs. If you are graduating with a degree in Apparel Merchandising, you can take many career paths. There are many entry-level programs you can apply for to become a buyer or planner, but there are also many other jobs or companies you can look into. I often spend time on LinkedIn exploring new brands and entry-level or associate jobs. There are many opportunities that I never knew were available, so I highly suggest browsing job sites to discover potential opportunities! See these ten that I recently found on LinkedIn.

1. The Business of Fashion – Speculative Application (Associate) London, UK

The Business of Fashion is always looking to add to their team in London, Shanghai, and New York, and it will allow you to work remotely. If you are interested in editorial and online media, this is a company you should consider pursuing. They offer opportunities in their Product Management, Software Development, Editorial, Sales/ Business Development, Customer Service, Creative/ Design/ Multimedia, Marketing, HR/People, and more! I encourage anyone considering a career in editorial to send in your speculative application with a Cover Letter.

2. Amazon – Retail Undergraduate Program 2021 (Entry-Level) Seattle, WA

If you are enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with a graduation date between December 2020 and June 2021, then this may be an opportunity you should consider. If you want to work for a large e-commerce corporation and have experience in brand management, proven analytical skills, and a proactive attitude, then consider applying for this program. The interview process started at the beginning of January, so if you are interested, apply now!

3. Calvin Klein (PVH Corp.) – Junior Asset Coordinator (Entry-level) New York, NY

As an essential member of the CK.com E-commerce team, the Junior Asset Coordinator will have many responsibilities. This includes owning and updating the seasonal assortments in SharePoint, managing the communication surrounding image completion & acquisition, working closely with the digital coordinators, being a copy coordinator, acting as a merch analysts on items, and going to the photo studio about two times a week to support sample collection and organization, among many other responsibilities. Familiarity and prior work tracking and analyzing Excel data are also required; you must have strong interpersonal skills and a strong attention to detail. 

4. Neiman Marcus Group – Shoot Coordinator (Associate) Dallas, TX 

If you are looking to stay in the south and considering opportunities in Texas, Neiman Marcus Group is a fantastic retailer to consider. Previous leadership, retail experience, or working in other fast-paced environments is preferred to be considered for this job. As a Shoot Coordinator, you would be working with Buying Offices to confirm samples for shoots, regularly interact with photographers, stylists, photo assistants, and art directors, and be able to follow up and follow through to make sure all tasks are entirely fulfilled.

5. Free People (URBN) – Assistant PD & Production Coordinator (Entry-level)  Philadelphia, PA

If you are interested in working for any of the URBN brands based in Philadelphia, I highly encourage you to look into this opportunity. The Assistant Production Coordinator's objective is to drive the day-to-day product development and production requirements within accessories and leather apparel. You must be a team player, regularly follow up with vendors and internal teams to ensure the samples are produced correctly and timely, and keep all sample databases updated. As an individual, you must possess a proactive approach to problem-solving skills and implement operational efficiencies. URBN brands now operate stores in the U.S., Canada, and Europe; they are a lifestyle retail group always looking to inspire their customers.

6. Stella McCartney – Merchandising Assistant – Accessories (Entry-level) London, UK

This is a reach, but personally, Stella McCartney is one of my favorite designers, and it's based in London, so this would be my dream brand to work for! I highly encourage you to apply to a few jobs that you think are out of reach because you never know what will happen or who will be reading your application. Always do your research and make your Cover Letter personal to the brand. If you have substantial experience in merchandising analysis, have an interest in working for a global luxury brand, have excellent analytical skills, understand trend analysis, and are highly organized, I encourage you to consider applying. Be honest, humble, and eager to learn if it's an entry-level position; they understand that you won't know everything at first.

7. The Mint Julep Boutique, LLC. – Assistant Buyer (Associate) Auburn, AL

If you are not planning to leave Auburn yet, the Mint Julep is a great place to consider working! While this is an associate position, if you have buying experience or are familiar with markets, I would consider applying to this! The Mint Julep is looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a strong fashion sense and a keen eye for envisioning and interpreting fashion trends! Lastly, travel is a requirement along with top-notch analytical and strategic thinking skills.

8. Dover Street Market New York – Assistant Merchandiser (Entry-level) New York, NY

The original Dover Street Market was first opened in Mayfair, London in 2004, and since then, five other locations have opened in Tokyo, New York, Singapore, Beijing, and Los Angeles. The company headquarters are now in New York, and I encourage you to learn more about the retailer and browse all their job opportunities! As an Assistant Merchandiser, you would be providing clerical and organizational support for Dover Street's fast-paced Merchandising Department, cataloging new merchandise, and having the opportunity to do many special projects.

9. Gucci – Retail Operations Coordinator (Entry-level) New York, NY

This is another far-reaching opportunity, but if you believe your application stands out and you have a connection within the company to follow up with, then apply! Gucci considers their Retail Operations department one of the most important because it supports business growth while adhering to all company policies and procedures. As a Retail Operations Coordinator, you would be reporting to the Director of Operations, streamlining communication for the retail population, and coordinating logistics to facilitate the whereabouts of merchandise.

10. Nordstrom – Merchandise Analyst (Associate) New York, NY 

Nordstrom has had a longstanding reputation for being one of the best places to work. Every employee, no matter how big their role, is cared for and accepted in the company. The ideal candidate for this position is results-oriented and views business through the lens of the customer. It will be your job to understand the customer's needs, wants, and expectations based on their shopping channel. You will work in the buying office, so they are looking for leadership experience and strong excel and math skills.

Being a student about to graduate this year has never been more challenging. The world is virtual, and many companies are looking to hire or start people out remotely. I can only encourage everyone to keep taking advantage of opportunities you believe will highlight you and strive to work in environments where you can continue to learn and show your strong skills. There are many great job sites to browse jobs in the fashion industry on, such as Fashion Workie, The Business of Fashion Careers page, Indeed, Dots, the NRF job board, Monster, Fashion United, and so on! I encourage you to take the time to make profiles on multiple sites and always be looking to build your network and connect with people that share your passion!
