Fashion Forecast: COVID’s Impact
As Louis XIV said, “Fashion is the mirror of history. It reflects political, social, and economic changes, rather than mere whimsy.” The world has changed very drastically from the society we knew four months ago. So, how will the impact of COVID-19 be mirrored as new fashion trends emerge?
MASKS
This trend was unavoidable. We have to wear them, so we might as well treat them as a fun accessory. While the use of cloth face masks is known to slow the spread of COVID-19, these masks have also become a super fun form of self-expression. Many have been making masks themselves - check out Gin Jager’s article on how to make your own! And, if you aren't able to make yourself a mask, plenty of companies are selling masks and giving back. Tory Burch is selling masks at cost and including a $5 donation to the International Medical Corps as well as a $5 donation to the Tory Burch Foundation. The International Medical Corps is a foundation that works to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the United States and around the world, and the Tory Burch Foundation works to advance women’s empowerment and women entrepreneurs. Additionally, the brand Alice + Olivia is donating one mask for every mask sold, as well as committing profit from each sale to No Kid Hungry to feed the millions of US children who lack food due to the crisis. From designer face masks to handmade, there are many stylish ways to keep yourselves and others safe! Here are some of our favorite masks - just in time for the fall semester.

Since June 22nd, face coverings have been required in all Auburn University buildings. As Auburn seeks to keep their students protected, it is important that we do our part. NO CONTACT CONVENIENCE
Although not a new concept, technology that allows for easier business transactions has substantially risen in importance during this pandemic. Curbside pick-up, third-party delivery services, BOPIS, mobile checkout, and other technology allow businesses to thrive without putting their customers at risk. This contact-less trend is very important today, and will continue to see relevance in the future. Our post-COVID society will be filled with consumers who have become accustomed to this type of immediate gratification, and businesses must be equipped.
CONSCIOUSLY MADE ACTIVEWEAR
Activewear absolutely did not need a push to continue to grow, but COVID-19 has helped the trend to develop even further. Activewear will continue to increase in prominence for those looking for a comfortable work-to-home look, something to inspire a new fitness routine, or just a daily staple. As we use our COVID-given free time to educate ourselves on the individual impact we have on the world, many will begin to find consciously-made fashion appealing. Check out these ethically-made activewear brands and add something new to your athleisure collection!
